Functional Tests

For many years I tried different supplements, diets and cleanses with no luck. Since healing, my motto has become “test, don’t guess”. It’s truly the only way to know what’s going on in the body. Combining this with proper nutrition and mindset will not only get to the root cause of your symptoms, but help prevent future illness. It’s important we test in the correct order for the best chance at healing.

These are the tests I order for clients, in the order they should be ran:

Genetics- Must be Correlated with Other Tests! Ancestry-$99

One of the most important tests! This is the key to knowing what forms of supplements are best, how the liver pathways are doing and other issues. These need correlated with the other tests. Ancestry.com is where I recommend ordering it. Gene mutations show which forms of supplements are best for you, how your body handles oxalates and ammonia, how the liver pathways and phases are doing, ect.
Here’s a few of the genes I look at:

  • BHMT

  • CBS

    COMT

  • CYP

  • GAD

  • MAOA

  • MTHFR C677T

  • MTHFR A1298C

  • MTR & MTRR

  • VDR TAQ

    Plus more

Comprehensive Blood Panel- Full Panels! $300

When you get blood work from your doctor, they typically look at only a few markers. Some may look at more numbers, but often it’s still not a full panel. For example, when doctors order a thyroid panel it’s usually just TSH and T3. That doesn’t give us the full story. The thyroid involves a whole system of hormones. They may tell you your blood work looks normal, even when you don’t feel well. I prefer a much stricter range of numbers. “The feel good range” as I call it.

These are what I look at:

  • Complete metabolic panel

  • Complete blood count

  • Full thyroid panel (TSH, Reverse T3, Free and total T3 and T4, TPO & TBG antibodies)

  • Full iron panel (Iron, TIBC, Iron saturation, ferritin)

  • Lipid panel

  • Homocysteine

  • Vitamin B12

  • Vitamin D

  • CRP

  • Hemoglobin A1C

  • HNK1 (CD57) panel

  • Urinalysis

Please note these markers may differ depending on where you are located

Organic Acids $370

Most Practitioners only look at the first page of this test! The entire test is extremely important! Also known as OAT. This is a urine test that provides a comprehensive nutritional and metabolic snapshot of an individual’s overall health. The OAT measures 76 organic acids from one easy to collect urine sample.
What this test shows:

  • Mold, yeast and bacterial imbalances

  • Mitochondrial dysfunction

  • Neurotransmitter metabolites (correlated with genetics)

  • Carbohydrates, fat and protein metabolism

  • Glutathione

  • Oxalates

  • Nutritional markers

  • Amino acids

  • Detoxification markers

  • Ammonia

Approximately 3 months later move to the DUTCH:

Dutch Complete $350

DUTCH offers the most extensive profile of sex and adrenal hormones along with their metabolites. Rather than blood work, which only shows a couple of hormone numbers at the moment of collection, the DUTCH shows many hormones over a period of time.
What it looks at:

  • Progesterone

  • Estrogens: estrone, estradiol, estriol and their metabolites

  • Testosterone and it’s metabolites

  • Adrenals free & metabolized cortisol and cortisol curve

  • Circadian rhythm

  • DHEA and DHEAs

  • Estrogen detoxification

  • Sulfation detoxification

  • Oxidative stress

  • Organic acid markers

  • Melatonin marker

Approximately 6 months later move to the gut work:

The ParaWellness Test $340

This test looks at parasites and protozoa in the gut that can be wreaking havoc on the body. Their website is parawellnessresearch.com.

GI-MAP $370

The GI-MAP detects microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance or contributing to illness. It’s also an indicator of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and immune function.

What this test shows:

  • Pathogens bacterial, parasitic & viral

  • H. pylori

  • Opportunistic bacteria, fungi, yeasts & viruses

  • Parasite, protozoa & worms

  • Digestion

  • Immune response to gluten

  • Estrogen detoxification

  • Immune response in the gut

  • Inflammation

Other tests that may be necessary depending on initial test results: Copper-zinc, SIBO, Urinary-Amino Acids, and Methylation panel.
